Local Economic Development Plans starting to become reality. Case of Kutaisi, Georgia
On 2-3 May 2019, the 1st International Business Forum “In Search of a Golden Fleece” took place in Kutaisi, Georgia. The event was organized by the Kutaisi City Municipality with the support of key international development donors, including the“Mayors for Economic Growth” (M4EG) Initiative.
The event is a part of the Kutaisi Local Economic Development Plan, aiming at promoting business and investment opportunities of the municipality. The M4EG Secretariat supported the event, bringing in representatives of M4EG Signatories from Moldova and Belarus, and presiding over two dedicated panels of the Forum.

The M4EG Initiative takes a broader outreach during Europe Day celebrations across the region
|
Annual Europe Day celebrations in early May have become a tradition in the majority of the Eastern Partnership countries. In 2019, which is also the 10th anniversary year of the Eastern Partnership, M4EG country teams were taking part in a series of dedicated events in their respective countries from early May to late June. The M4EG Secretariat members and representatives of M4EG Pioneer Projects worked together to showcase the M4EG implementation results, and promote European approaches to local economic development.

The M4EG Initiative gets featured at European Development Days 2019 in Brussels, Belgium
On 18-19 June 2019, around 8500 representatives of international development organizations from around the world gathered together in Brussels, Belgium for the annual European Development Days event.
The M4EG Initiative had been selected by the organizers (the European Commission) to be showcased through a dedicated stand in the so-called Global European Village. Two days of direct interaction with the participants resulted in useful information exchanged, general awareness about the Initiative raised, and new partnerships forged.

THE “MAYORS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH” STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING CONVENES FOR THE 3D TIME: DEFINING THE WAY FORWARD

On 25 June 2019, Tbilisi hosted the 3d annual meeting of the M4EG Steering Committee members from the six participating countries, representing the line ministries, associations of local authorities, representatives of grant projects, as well as representatives of the Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the European Commission, the World Bank, the M4EG Secretariat team and the members of the implementing Consortium.

Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) is an Initiative of the European Union, which was set in operation in January 2017 within the Eastern Partnership framework. The overall goal of the project is to support Mayors and municipalities of the Eastern Partnership countries to become active facilitators for economic growth and job creation at the local level. |
