Bolnisi Municipality has launched the pilot project „Establishing a platform for efficient flow of business activities in Bolnisi“ funded by the EU under the Mayors for Economic Growth Initiative

On February 23, 2018, Bolnisi Municipality held the launch ceremony of the Pilot Project „Establishing a platform for efficient flow of business activities in Bolnisi“, which is funded by the EU under the Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) Initiative. The M4EG Club membership certificate was awarded to the Bolnisi Mayor during the event.

Over the course of 2018-2021, an agro center will be set up at the Bolnisi Municipality as part of the Pilot Project. The center will be equipped with a wine bottling line, as well as cheese and vegetables packaging equipment. Furthermore, in Bolnisi city  the infrastructure of „Katharinenfeld“ Area T. Stephania Street will be improved, and business clusters will be formed. The EU funding for the above-mentioned activities will be Euro 320,000 and the Bolnisi Municipality contribution will be Euro 60,000.

Mr. David Sherazadishvili, Bolnisi Municipality Mayor, underscored the importance of achieving good results with this EU funded project for the Municipality and invited the key stakeholders in Bolnisi to participate in the project implementation and in the preparation of economic development plan. 

Mr. Irakli Khmaladze, Project Manager from the EU Delegation to Georgia, congratulated the Bolnisi Municipality with winning in the EU grant competition and noted that municipalities can make real changes in economic growth and improvement of living conditions of the population. He stated that in the future, in grant competitions the EU Delegation will assign priority to the M4EG Club member municipalities.

Mr. Gogi Meshveliani, Majoritarian MP from Bolnisi, Mr. Giorgi Dididze, Deputy Head of the Department for Promotion of Eurointegration and Reforms, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mr. Guram Avkopashvili, local business representative, and Mr. Peter Korsby, Team Leader, M4EG Secretariat, addressed the audience. They emphasized the importance of local economic development and declared support to the Bolnisi Municipality.

The event was also attended by the representatives of local business and civil society, M4EG Secretariat, and other international projects.
