The town of regional subordination in the Kyiv region, located on the left bank of the Dnipro, with a population of approx. 25 thousand people.
Slavutych was founded in 1986 for the ChNPP employees evacuated after the Chornobyl catastrophe from the present alienation zone. The name was taken from the ancient Ukrainian name of the river Dnypro. The city's territory is an exclave of the Kyiv region on the territory of Chernihiv, from which, after the decision to build the city, a part of the lands of the Ripky and Chernihiv districts was allocated.
The majority of the population of working age is employed at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and enterprises.
The city authorities began to deal with the development of Slavutych and the problem of diversifying the city's economy in the early 90's.
Beginning in 1988, public opinion of the city's residents, scientific institutions was considered in addressing the issues of the life of Slavutych. Since then, a model of local democracy has been created. The discussions covered not only the implementation of the city's development strategy, but also its development, through a variety of forms of communication: public gatherings, municipal hearings, meetings of the "Public Council for the Development of the Town", direct TV shows with representatives of the city authorities, heads of enterprises, institutions and organizations, business games. The broadest possible circle of the socially active part of the population of Slavutych is involved.
Over the years Slavutych has created the most up-to-date social infrastructure. It is quite deserved that in addition to many awards, the city received a Certificate number 1 of the city-laboratory within the framework of the Municipal Workshop.
Today there are all the conditions for Slavutych to look confidently in the future. The general plan for the development of the city up to 30 thousand inhabitants is being completed, taking into account the main issues –economic development and diversification of the city economy in the conditions of the decommissioned Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
