103 M4EG Signatories earn the M4EG Acting Member status
The M4EG Secretariat is happy and proud to announce that in November 2018 the Mayors for Economic Growth Initiative has moved to a new level together with its first 103 Signatories, whose Local Economic Development Plans were approved as corresponding to the M4EG approaches and principles, based on the evaluation of the World Bank experts. Thus, the Signatories, who received positive assessment of their LEDP, are promoted to the status of M4EG Acting members, and will now focus on the implementation of their plans in 2019-2020 (see our Signatory map for more detail http://m4eg.eu/en/signatories/). |

"Municipalities for Sustainable Growth" Conference: green light from the EU for the local authorities of the Eastern Partnership countries

On 22-23 November, the high-level Eastern Partnership Conference “Municipalities for Sustainable Growth” was held in Kyiv, Ukraine. About 400 representatives of local and national authorities, associations of local authorities, partner organizations and other stakeholders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine, as well as EU representatives, have discussed the role of Local Authorities in identifying and addressing the complexities of sustainable development, economic resilience, and climate action. |

Staff Exchange Call for Expressions of Interest open! (till 30 January)
Till the end of January M4EG Acting members can submit their requests for Staff Exchange missions! The M4EG Secretariat has already identified quite a number of municipal administrations in Western Europe, who are willing to delegate their best practitioners to assist the selected EaP municipalities in implementing their Local Economic Development Plans. The missions are planned to start in April 2019 and continue till the end of year 2019. |

With the aim to promote experience and best practice sharing in the region 5 networking thematic groups were established for the M4EG Acting members
Each group is comprised of representatives of local authorities from each Eastern Partnership country, according to their strategic priorities as set out in their Local Economic Development Plans. The topics for the groups include:
a. Business Support Services b. Agriculture c. Tourism d. IT-services e. Wine making

National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), one of the key partners for the Initiative, has celebrated its 15th anniversary in December 2018
The success of the Mayors for Economic Growth Initiative implementation in the region and the sustainability of the achieved results is fundamentally contingent on the engagement and buy-in of the key national partners. The M4EG Secretariat values this cooperation and partnership, and we would like start sharing some concrete stories from the countries. This Newsletter issue is devoted to NALAG. |

Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) is an Initiative of the European Union, which was set in operation in January 2017 within the Eastern Partnership framework. The overall goal of the project is to support Mayors and municipalities of the Eastern Partnership countries to become active facilitators for economic growth and job creation at the local level. |
