The M4EG Pioneer Projects have been active and productive in spite of the challenges associated with the pandemic.



Here are the stories from Gori (Georgia), which is working on developing tourism, Bragin (Belarus) supporting rural entrepreneurship, and Sevan (Armenia) featuring a new Business Centre:

Two brand-new packages of training materials for M4EG Signatories, focusing on the role of local authorities in a) promoting tourism and b) supporting agri-business development were produced by World Bank sectoral specialists.

The "Mayors for Economic Growth" Secretariat has asked its member municipalities in Moldova to share their most significant achievements and successes

The M4EG Secretariat conducted an assessment of the immediate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the local economies in the Eastern Partnership following the first wave of the virus.

Wrapping up M4EG Phase I, the Final Project Steering Committee meeting was held online on 8 December 2020.


The M4EG Secretariat team, representatives of the EC, DG, NEAR and EU Delegations to the participating countries, as well as the key national stakeholders, took stock of the Project’s achievements over the 4 years of implementation. Questions on the transition to Phase II were also discussed, and the vision of the next Phase’s scope and approaches was presented to participants.

Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) is an Initiative of the European Union, which was set in operation in January 2017 within the Eastern Partnership framework. The overall goal of the project is to support Mayors and municipalities of the Eastern Partnership countries to become active facilitators for economic growth and job creation at the local level.
