Some of the M4EG signatories’ local economies are very much (or exclusively) focused on cultivating grape, making wine or other local alcohol, selling it domestically, or exporting it.
On 7-8 November, the M4EG thematic group on Wine making convened in Moldova for its first networking event, aimed at exploring local authorities’ support measures to local wine producers in such municipalities.
Around 25 participants from Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Ukraine, and Belarus exchanged their experience in supporting local wine/alcohol producers’ clusters formation, wine exporting, and marketing their territories for wine tourism. As Mr. Boris Filipov, Project Manager at the EU Delegation to Moldova mentioned during the networking event in Chisinau: “Decentralization tendency is irreversible and cannot be stopped. More and more responsibilities are getting delegated to the local authorities. So, it’s local administrations who can help solve the problems, which concrete industry faces at the national level”
They also studied hands-on the best practices of Moldova in this area in Puhoi (Ialoveni district), and took part in the dedicated section on wine making at the International Investment Forum "Invest Gagauzia-2019", held in Komrat (Gagauzia) on 8 November. A range of relevant topics was explored during the event, including the challenges of improving wine production efficiency, adhering to the established standards, branding of wine territories, successful exporting tips, etc. A specially invited international expert in wine making and marketing was supporting the discussions, and provided expert opinion on the identified challenges and their possible solutions.
